A small car can still be big on safety. Case in point: Since arriving on the scene in 2007, the Jeep Compass has always featured six airbags (now seven) and an anti-lock braking system (ABS) that pulses the brakes for maximum stopping power. Hill Start Assist, which automatically holds the car on the brakes on steep inclines to avoid rolling backwards, is also standard. Additional features like four-wheel drive inspire confidence when road conditions are at their worst.

However, the following safety tech is only available in Jeep Compass models at an extra cost:

• Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go, capable of coming to a complete stop based on traffic conditions
• Blind-Spot Monitoring with visible and audible cues
• Rear Cross-Path Detection, which lets you know if any people or objects are approaching from the sides

Brown, black, grey—the Jeep Compass comes with a few colour choices for its interior. Each one is linked to a specific trim, so be prepared to look at multiple examples if you have a certain style in mind. Higher trim levels also have a feature crucial for Canadian winters: heated front seats and steering wheel.

There’s not much tech that isn’t standard on the Jeep Compass. Most models come with a touchscreen infotainment system, with the latest model touting the largest one in its class at 8.4 inches. New Compasses also come with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™. Most importantly, the Jeep Compass comes with the easy-to-use Uconnect system. Many drivers praise it for its user-friendliness, thanks to its clear graphics and punchy response times.

Jeep Compass Space

You’ll be surprised by just how much room the Jeep Compass has. It may be a compact crossover, but its spacious interior makes it feel bigger than looks would suggest. The Compass can easily play the family role, but adults won’t feel punished if they have to sit in the back. The hatch doesn’t offer up a lot of storage space, but cubbies throughout the cabin help.

Jeep Compass Comfort

The Jeep Compass’s seats are comfortable for driver and passengers alike. Its off-road credentials make it a rougher ride on tarmac, especially in the first generation model. The trade-off is that the Compass, especially in Trailhawk trim, can travel to places few of its competitors can.

One issue some drivers have with the Compass is its relative lack of power. The 2.4 L, 180 hp engine is missing the turbocharged grunt many vehicles in its class feature.
