In newer models, lower-cost trims are limited in safety features, though rearview cameras will help with tricky parking. Older models from 2006 offer multiple airbags, adjustable head restraints to reduce the risk of whiplash in the event of an accident, as well as four-wheel antilock disc brakes to avoid skidding.

In contrast, the highest trim of the 2019 model earned the IIHS Top Safety Pick award. For example, the Limited Edition’s Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist helps you react if something unexpected appears on the road. LED headlights are energy-efficient and mimic natural light, making night driving easier on your eyes.

The Accent’s cloth-covered interior is designed for comfort and functionality across all model years. USB charging ports by the driver's seat—optional in models from 2010—mean you won’t have to worry about your phone powering down during a long drive. In the 2019, an upgrade to the Limited Edition will get you heated front seats to make icy winter commutes cozy. Higher trim levels also offer the option of a sunroof, helping make the car feel airy and spacious despite its small size.

Hyundai Accent Technology

On all model years, the Hyundai Accent lacks on-board navigation, so you’ll have to sync a map from your connected smartphone if you want turn-by-turn directions. If you’re looking at a model older than 10 years old, you might want to opt for a higher trim if you want air conditioning, remote keyless entry or access to satellite radio. 

The touchcreen system in recent versions—designed to minimize distractions while driving—lets you easily access music and communication apps from both Apple and Android devices. An upgrade in models from 2018 and up will get you Hyundai Blue Link, a connectivity service that lets you start your car and adjust the temperature all from your smartphone, ideal for warming up the interior in the winter. There’s also proximity-based locking so you can skip digging for your keys in your bag or pockets.

The Accent’s interior has earned it a reputation as one of the most spacious cars in the minicar category, so passengers have room to relax. The choice between sedan and hatchback models means you can get that bit of extra cargo space if you need it.

Hyundai Accent Comfort

A number of comfort-oriented perks are available as extras on newer models, from climate control to a luxe leather-wrapped steering wheel, though the latter could also be found on models as old as 2008. When it comes to handling, keep in mind that the Accent’s rear brakes are drum brakes rather than disc brakes. This means that in wet conditions, the car may not handle as well as others in its category.
