The Chevrolet Colorado debuted in 2004 as the replacement for the Chevrolet S-10. The first-generation Chevrolet Colorado came with a 2.8-litre, four-cylinder engine as standard and an optional 3.5-litre inline five-cylinder. Both engines were backed up by manual or automatic transmissions with rear- or all-wheel drive in a choice of three cab sizes: a two-door regular and four-door extended cabs with a six-foot bed as well as a larger four-door crew cab with a shorter five-foot bed.
Trim packages included the Base, LS and LT, while the Z71 model had an off-road focus with a raised ride height, tougher suspension and a locking rear differential. There were also sports models in the form of the ZQ8 and Xtreme, which featured lower, stiffer suspension and bigger wheels and fender flares.
Second Generation and ZR2
The second-generation Chevrolet Colorado debuted in 2015 with a high-strength steel frame and a choice of a 2.5-litre inline-4 or 3.6-litre V6 engine. A 2.8-litre Duramax diesel engine was added for the first time in 2016. Trim levels for the second-generation Colorado include Base and WT standing for Work Truck. The LT is the next step up, while the Z71 is the top-of-the-line model, featuring larger wheels and more standard equipment. The ZR2 trim package is aimed at serious off-roaders with a raised ride height, wider track, off-road tires, upgraded suspension and skid plates to protect the vehicle's underside.
