When first introduced, the Nissan Altima was a top trim level of the Japanese Nissan Leopard. Upon North American introduction, the car was a replacement for the discontinued Nissan Stanza. Apple CarPlay and Android auto became available in 2018, but as of 2021, they are no longer standard. The coupe model was discontinued in 2014. In terms of safety, forward collision warning became standard in the 2018 model, and 2019 brought a full-on redesign for the fifth generation. The sixth-generation Nissan Altima also offers an option of semi-autonomous driving features under the Nissan ProPilot Assist umbrella.
