BMW X3 Safety

The BMW X3 receives high annual safety rankings. Since the first models around 2004, its airbags have protected front and back seat passengers on all sides. High-tech safety features are not standard but are available as options on the higher trim levels. The Driver Assistance Plus package available on 2018 models offers:

• Forward Collision Warning and Emergency Braking to help prevent front collisions
• Lane Departure Warning and Blind-Spot Monitoring with Cross-Traffic Alert to make lane changes safer
• Front and Rear Parking Sensors to alert the driver of obstructions when parking

Standard across models as old as 2010 are front-seat and side-curtain airbags, antilock brakes and stability control to keep the car steady on slippery roads, and hill descent control for those steep hills.

BMW X3 Interior

All generations are known for clean, uncluttered interiors with air conditioning and power windows as standard equipment. Your choice of paint colour may affect the interior colour schemes. With that in mind, it should be noted that any paint colour other than black or white will cost extra.

Later models and higher trim levels offer such niceties as leather upholstery and 10-way power seats to fine-tune comfort while behind the wheel. Seat position and window design make for excellent visibility, and the large analog gauges are easy to see and read.

BMW X3 Technology

The BMW X3 was designed to be a luxury crossover, and its technological amenities realize that goal. The latest models have many easy-to-use tech features. Depending on the model and trim level chosen, these include:

• Surround-view camera, giving you a 360-degree view of your car
• Connected infotainment interface with Bluetooth connectivity
• Apple CarPlay phone integration (with paid subscription)
• Navigation system
• Two USB ports
• Voice control system

The Technology package on the 2011 offers real-time traffic information, Bluetooth, a rearview camera and a voice-command navigation system.

BMW X3 Space

The X3 has plenty of headroom and legroom. The large doors and low sills make it easy to get in or out. There is little cargo space behind the front row of seats, but at 28.7 cubic feet, the rear cargo area makes up for it. With the back seats folded, you'll find 62.7 cubic feet of cargo space. There are many interior storage compartments for loose items, especially handy for family-driving.

BMW X3 Comfort

With its standard all-wheel drive (for the xDrive30i and M40i trim levels), eight-speed automatic transmission and turbocharged 2.0 L four-cylinder engine, the third generation of the BMW X3 is a powerful and steady ride. Good sound-dampening provides a quiet interior, especially when stopped or idling.

Since the first generation, the shocks and suspension system provide a smooth, solid driving experience that feels more like a car than an SUV.
