Summary
The BMW X6 is a two-door sports activity coupe that combines the durability and attributes of an SUV with a slightly smaller build. Large wheels and tires, all-wheel drive and high ground clearance allow the BMW X6 to conquer rough roads, all with a combined 13.8 L/100 km fuel consumption rate.
With extensive safety features, a luxe interior and plenty of tech, the BMW X6 is a modern and versatile vehicle. If you love the power and feel of SUVs but don't need something so large, the BMW X6 is a great alternative.
Safety
The BMW X6 comes with a generous number of safety features. Base trims from 2009 onwards include the following as standard:
- Four-wheel anti-lock braking system (ABS) to prevent skidding when braking suddenly
- Dual front side-mounted airbags, front and rear head airbags
- Automatic passenger airbag deactivation when underweight passengers are sensed
- Rear door child safety locks and child seat anchors
- Daytime running lights and dusk-sensing headlamps
- Front fog/driving lights for low-visibility driving
- Stability Control and Traction Control to optimize grip on low-friction roads and maximize stability in rough driving conditions
- Emergency Brake Assist (EBA), allowing your vehicle to stop faster during hard-braking
Additionally, 2011+ models include an alarm with an interior motion sensor, activated in the event of a break-in.
Interior
The BMW X6 includes high-quality materials, notably the leather steering wheel, which is standard across all trims. Heated power mirrors, air-conditioning, remote keyless door locks and one-touch power windows add ease of use to all BMW X6 models. In 2011, several other interior features became standard with all trims, such as dual-zone automatic climate control, standard heated seating and a power sunroof.
Technology
Each year, BMW has added more tech amenities to the X6’s repertoire:
- AM/FM radio, CD stereo, auxiliary audio input and USB ports (2009)
- Optional navigation system with HD display, 12 GB of media storage and a rearview camera with a top view in the Premium and Executive packages (2010)
- Standard Bluetooth connectivity (2011)
- Apple/Android integration with touchscreen infotainment display (2016)
Space
Interior cabin space for passengers is satisfactory, with a decent amount of head and legroom in both the front and rear seats. While its 753 L trunk may be small compared to its competitors, folding down the rear seats expands it to 1690 L.
If you need even more storage, models from before 2014 have a 2700 kg braked towing capacity, raised to 3500 kg in all the models that follow.
Comfort
The BMW X6 is especially comfortable for its segment, due to its intelligent all-wheel drive system, specially-tuned adaptive suspension and adjustable bucket seats in the front. Additionally, all models come standard with a tilt/telescoping steering wheel, allowing the driver to adjust its position to maximize comfort.
All models from 2011 onward feature cruise control and a heated multifunction steering wheel, making the BMW X6 even more comfortable to ride in.
