Ford Escape Safety

The Escape has available Intelligent four-wheel drive (4WD) that monitors traction and road conditions, along with Curve Control and AdvancTrac with Roll Stability to keep the car in control in every situation. The latest driver assistance technology is available on new models from 2018, including:

• Forward Collision Warning with brake support
• Blind spot monitors to alert you of any oncoming vehicles in your exterior mirrors
• Cross-Traffic Alert to help drivers back up safely

The rearview camera comes standard, and the optional reverse sensing system lets drivers know when they are getting close to objects behind them. Earlier models offer less as standard—for instance, 2006 models only come with anti-lock brakes, which keep wheels from locking and skidding. Side-impact airbags and full-length head curtain airbags are extra.

Ford Escape Interior

The latest Escapes like the 2017 come with a choice of fabric or leather seats, while earlier models only offered it on its top Limited trim, along with an auto-dimming rearview mirror—for example, in the 2008 model year. Depending on the chosen trim in recent models, interior options include:

• Heated front seats
• Driver’s seat memory, so your seat preferences are saved even after someone else has driven it
• Dual-zone climate control
• 10-way power driver’s seat, offering tons of highly adjustable options for added comfort, including lumbar support

Ford Escape Technology

A handy option on models from 2017 is the Enhanced Active Park Assist, which facilitates parallel parking, getting out of a tight spot or backing into a standard parking spot. The navigation system on the Escape is compatible with the Waze navigation app, which provides real-time accident alerts, traffic information and suggested routes to avoid hazards. It can be accessed through the touchscreen or by voice commands for added safety. Higher-end trim options also offer SYNC Connect 4G LTE Wi-Fi.

Tech on older models from 2008 had some conveniences like keyless entry, full power accessories, a CD player and an auxiliary input jack, as well as an optional DVD navigation system.

Ford Escape Space

Motorists who don’t like to travel light will appreciate the Escape’s 68 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats down, or 34 cubic feet with them up. Accessing that space is easy using the hands-free, foot-activated liftgate. The Escape is a two-row, five-seater vehicle with no option for adding a third row of seating. Rear seating features a 60/40 split so drivers can take advantage of some of the extra cargo room even when there is a passenger or two in the back. Some passengers find the rear lacks legroom, but if kids are the main passengers, this shouldn’t be an issue.

For larger loads, the Escape can tow up to 1,587 kg with an optional towing package.

Ford Escape Comfort

Drivers report that the Escape provides a smooth, comfortable ride and a quiet cabin. The front seats offer good lumbar and head support, and the driver’s seat has 10-way power adjustment as well as driver memory, which is helpful if more than one person drives the car. For cold days, a heated steering wheel is also available.
