Hyundai Genesis Summary
Only two generations of the Hyundai Genesis were ever produced, the 2016 update being the final one. These days, the Genesis is called the G-70, manufactured by Genesis Canada, a subsidiary of Hyundai. The original vehicles are still some of the most popular choices for second-hand car buyers, thanks to their reliability and quality. Both Hyundai Genesis coupes (two-door) and sedans (four-door) are still in demand on the road due to their solid performance and features—even the first-generation vehicles have a V8 option. All models have excellent safety ratings as well—the 2009 model got five stars from the NHTSA.
Hyundai Genesis Safety
With the top rating for impact resistance, the Hyundai Genesis is a tough vehicle. All models have dual front, side and rear airbags, and the following features are standard across all generations:
- Brake assist, which applies additional force when needed to help the driver brake effectively
- Anti-lock braking system (ABS), which prevents wheels from locking up during quick stops
- Traction control to improve grip
- Electronic stability control to prevent skidding and loss of control
Later versions also include additional driver knee airbags, and the 2016 model features blind spot detection as an optional extra in some trims to help prevent collisions with nearby vehicles. The 2016 Genesis 5.0 Ultimate trim includes optional safety features like adaptive cruise control, which helps maintain a steady, efficient speed, as well as a lane assistance system for changing lanes safely.
Hyundai Genesis Interior
The first-generation Genesis models aimed to compete with much more expensive and established sedans, and even today, the high-quality leather interior of the 2009 model can impress. The 2012 5.0 R-Spec also features a rare black interior. Design-wise, the vehicle feels luxurious, with clean lines separating controls for user-ease. All models have a central display screen which can be set up for easy navigation while driving.
Hyundai Genesis Technology
The 2012 model introduced the optional 8-inch touch screen display, which can be a driver information system or multimedia controller. The 2016 model has a tech-specific trim that includes front and rear cameras, as well as a 7-inch gauge display for easy viewing. All-wheel drive is an option for some models as well, like the 2016 3.8. But drivers looking for all possible technology upgrades should opt for the 2016 Genesis 5.0.
Hyundai Genesis Space
The Genesis generally has more space in the cabin than similar vehicles, with the 2016 model offering a total of 123 cubic feet. This means there's enough room for drivers and passengers to stretch their legs and elbows, although some drivers report that headroom in the back is a little tight. The trunk is also large for the vehicle's class. It has a total of 15.3 cubic feet, which means enough room for most cargo.
Hyundai Genesis Comfort
Acceleration and steering response across all generations of the Genesis is fast, and even the heavier, more recent vehicles manage to stay agile. Engine and road noise are kept to a minimum in the cabin, and the ride is comfortable without being bumpy.
