Mercedes-Benz has a long history of producing practical, high-quality wagons. More recently, a wagon variant of the smaller Mercedes-Benz C-Class became available with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 255 horsepower, plus a much more powerful version available with tuning by Mercedes-AMG.
Practicality and power: Mercedes-AMG wagons
The first Mercedes-AMG-powered wagon to appear in North America was a one-off custom version of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, built in 1987 for a Canadian collector. Despite the appeal of a large V8 engine in a practical wagon, buyers would have to wait until 2005 to get their hands on a production version. With its supercharged 5.4-litre V8, 469 horsepower and rear-wheel drive, the Mercedes-AMG E55 was a hit. A refreshed version went on sale in 2007, now known as the Mercedes-AMG E63 for its 6.2-litre V8. A fourth generation arrived in 2012, with a fifth following in 2014. The most recent iteration arrived in 2018 with a thunderous twin-turbo V8 engine producing 603 horsepower.
