Since its debut in 1966, the Chevrolet Camaro has evolved through six generations. Originally designed to compete with the popular Ford Mustang, the first generation ran from 1967 to 1969. The first Chevrolet Camaro was available as a two-door coupe or convertible, and offered rear-wheel drive and up to 375 horsepower. In the second generation, 1970 to 1981, Chevrolet ditched the convertible, focusing on the coupe. Due to tough new emissions regulations, max horsepower had dropped to 155 by 1975. The Chevrolet Camaro remained in production until 2002, taking an eight-year break before a modernized fifth generation debuted in 2010.
