The Dodge Brothers Motor Company was founded by John Francis Dodge and Horace Elgin Dodge in 1913. Originally, they started off as a bicycle company but sold that business to open a machine shop to make parts for the new auto industry. They produced engines for Oldsmobile vehicles and built engines for Henry Ford.
The first Dodge vehicle was a four-cylinder touring car called the Dodge 30 and it debuted in November 1914.

Both brothers died in 1920 of the flu and pneumonia. Their company was sold to Dillon, Read & Co., and subsequently to Walter Chrysler, making Chrysler Corporation the world’s third-largest automaker.
