The Porsche Cayenne went on sale in North America in 2003 and was Porsche's first four-door vehicle. Making its debut at a time of financial turmoil for the company, the Porsche Cayenne ushered in a new period of stability and growth. The first-generation Porsche Cayenne featured a 3.2-litre VR6 engine and six-speed manual as standard, while the Cayenne S and Cayenne GTS both featured V8s. The Cayenne Turbo and Turbo S added forced induction, while a 3.0-litre diesel V6 was also available. In addition to its sporty on-road handling, the first-generation Porsche Cayenne came with low-range gearing for confidence off-road.
Porsche Cayenne Evolution
The redesigned second-generation Porsche Cayenne went on sale in 2010 with larger dimensions but weighing 500 lbs. less than its predecessor, thanks to greater use of aluminum in its construction and the removal of the low-range transfer case. The interior received a major resign, with hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains becoming available for the first time. More engine choices were added, including a diesel V8, while transmission options were a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic with Tiptronic manual shifting. The third-generation Porsche Cayenne debuted in 2017, again redesigned and featuring a choice of turbocharged six and eight-cylinder gas engines, as well as hybrid options.
