MINI Cooper history and evolution
The original Mini was born out of necessity in 1950s Britain. Due to fuel rationing, there was a need for small fuel-efficient cars. The British Motor Company introduced the first Mini in 1959 under their Austin and Morris brands. Racecar builder John Cooper saw potential in the petite four-seater, outfitting it with a more powerful engine. The resulting Austin Mini Cooper and Morris Mini Cooper debuted in 1961, followed shortly after by Mini Cooper S models in 1963. The Mini Cooper found success on the racetrack, winning the Monte Carlo Rally from 1964 to 1967. BMW acquired the Mini brand name in 1994, debuting the new MINI Cooper in 2002.
MINI Cooper features
The 2021 MINI Cooper is available as a three-door hatchback, five-door hatchback or soft-top convertible. For the 2022 model year, there is also an all-electric version. In terms of performance, the MINI Cooper is equipped with front-wheel drive and your choice of seven-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission. Available comfort and convenience features include leather seats, heated side mirrors and a digital touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone integration. Look for advanced safety features, like forward collision warning with emergency braking. The optional Driver Assistance package adds adaptive cruise control and automated parking to the car's capabilities.
