History of the MINI brand
The first Mini cars were produced in England in 1959 by the British Motor Company. At the time, these compact fuel-efficient cars were badged as the Austin Seven and Morris Mini-Minor. Race car designer John Cooper saw racing potential in the car, commissioning 1,000 high-performance models. In 1961, the race-ready Austin Mini Cooper and Morris Mini Cooper debuted. John Cooper's Mini would go on to win many races, including the Monte Carlo Rally. By 1965, a million Minis had been sold. The Mini name became a standalone brand in 1969, the same year the Mini Clubman was introduced. The brand was acquired by BMW in 1994; they would go on to introduce the new MINI in 2001.
