Considered the world’s first SUV, the Chevrolet Suburban debuted back in 1935 as the Chevrolet Suburban Carryall, an eight-passenger wagon built on a truck frame. Now the longest-running nameplate in automotive history, the Chevrolet Suburban has evolved through 12 generations over 87 years. It wasn’t until the fifth generation, from 1960 to 1966, that the Chevrolet Suburban began to transform into a family-friendly SUV. The first four-door models were introduced in 1973, with earlier vehicles offering only two or three doors. Later generations feature an increased focus on passenger comfort and safety, with advanced technologies introduced during the tenth generation (2007 to 2014).
